THE DEVELOPMENT
From an idea to a developed watch concept
HAYKES began with an original watch design around 2000.
Over the years, the concept developed from a visual idea into a broader watch innovation project, exploring design, light, time visualisation, interaction and technical possibilities.
The development covers both the watch itself and the underlying visual system that gives HAYKES its distinctive character.
WATCH DESIGN
Traditional analogue watchmaking — with a new visual layer
The starting point has always been the analogue watch.
HAYKES retains conventional analogue hands for hours, minutes and seconds, while introducing an additional visual layer around the dial.
The development includes different watch designs, proportions, dial concepts, materials, colours and applications.

THE LED RING
Light becomes information
At the heart of HAYKES is a ring of individually controlled LEDs.
The LED system can visualise information around the 24-hour dial, including:
- position of the sun
- sunrise
- sunset
- daylight
- nighttime
- other time-related information
The combination of analogue hands and controlled light creates the distinctive HAYKES visual language.
LED CONTROL & VISUAL OPTIMISATION
Dit onderdeel zou ik zeker opnemen, want dit is precies wat jij eerder aangaf.
Timing, fading and controlled transitions
The development goes beyond simply switching LEDs on and off.
HAYKES explores controlled activation, timing and fading to create smooth transitions between positions around the dial.
This allows the LED system to represent the movement of daylight in a more natural and intuitive way.
The development includes concepts for:
- sequential LED activation
- timing of individual LEDs
- fading between positions
- gradual transitions
- different visualisation modes
- optimisation of the displayed information
TIME VISUALISATION
The complete 24-hour cycle
A central part of the development is the transformation of the conventional watch face into a visual representation of the entire day.
The system can represent:
SUNRISE → DAY → SUNSET → NIGHT
while the analogue hands continue to show the precise current time.
This creates two layers of information:
What time is it?
and
Where are we in the day?
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
Beyond solar time
The underlying visual system also creates possibilities for additional information.
Depending on further technical development, HAYKES can be extended with functions such as:
- weather alerts
- calendar information
- agenda integration
- status indicators
- contextual notifications
These functions are intended to remain visually discreet and consistent with the analogue character of the watch.
The principle is simple: information without visual overload.
INTERACTION
Information when you want it
DAY
shows the remaining daylight.
NIGHT
shows the remaining nighttime.
SUN
shows the position of sunrise, sunset and the sun.
TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT
From visual concept to functional principle
HAYKES has been developed through a combination of industrial design and technical exploration.
The development includes concepts relating to:
- LED positioning
- electronic control
- timing
- fading
- power management
- interaction
- mechanical watch integration
- display architecture
The objective has consistently been to preserve the character of an analogue watch while adding a new visual information layer.
DIFFERENT DESIGNS — ONE IDEA
One concept. Different expressions.
HAYKES has been explored through different watch forms, dial designs and visual interpretations.
The underlying principle remains consistent:
Make the natural rhythm of time visible.
BRAND & IDENTITY
HAYKES
The name, visual identity and communication concept were developed as part of the project.
FOLLOW THE SUN became the central expression of the HAYKES philosophy.
DEVELOPMENT HISTORY
More than a single design
The HAYKES development represents more than one watch or one visual proposal.
It is the accumulated result of more than twenty years of:
ideas → sketches → design → experimentation → technical concepts → visualisation → refinement
The complete development material forms part of the opportunity now available for acquisition.
